Plant transpiration is a continuous moisture source

A mature crop transpires hundreds of liters of water per day per 1,000 m² of canopy. This water enters the air as vapor and accumulates if the greenhouse is sealed or poorly ventilated. Unlike a warehouse where moisture comes mainly from infiltration, a greenhouse generates moisture internally, all day, every day.

Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) is the actual control target

Modern growers manage VPD rather than relative humidity alone. VPD measures how much more water vapor the air can hold at a given temperature — it determines transpiration rate, stomatal behavior, and disease pressure. Most cultivars target a VPD between 0.8 and 1.5 kPa depending on growth stage. A dehumidifier sized for the wrong VPD target will either fight the plants or fail to control disease.

Disease pressure rises sharply above 70% RH

Botrytis cinerea (gray mold), powdery mildew, and bud rot all multiply rapidly when foliar surfaces stay wet for 4+ hours. In sealed greenhouses, this typically happens in the hours after lights-off, when plant temperature drops below dew point. Greenhouse Dehumidifier Sizing — How Much Capacity Do You Need?

Greenhouse dehumidifier capacity is determined primarily by the daily transpiration load of your crop, not by floor area alone. A dense flowering canopy under high light may transpire 4–8 liters per m² per day, while a propagation room with young plants may transpire under 1 L/m² per day. Installation and Operation Notes for Greenhouse Use

Cabinet & Coil Selection

The 225/335/506 series ships with M-CoRR heat recovery defrost, MERV-13 F7 pollen/spore filtration, and titanium-foil coils built for greenhouse air chemistry. The GDH-CE ceiling-mounted series uses copper-and-titanium-foil coils to resist irrigation aerosol, fertilizer mist, and occasional sulfur burner residue. The XR desiccant series uses a fire-resistant silica gel rotor unaffected by low temperature and low-RH targets. Match the platform to the greenhouse type, not just the L/day rating.

Drainage

All SHISHUO greenhouse models support continuous drainage through a hose connection. In greenhouses, route the drain line to an irrigation collection point or floor drain — the condensate from a clean coil is essentially distilled water and can be reused for irrigation if collected from a clean coil. Do not allow the drain hose to dip below the discharge level (creates an airlock).

Cold-Weather Operation

The 225/335/506 series operates across a wide 5–45°C range with M-CoRR heat recovery defrost, extending useful extraction into cold nights better than standard compressor units. Below 5°C ambient — winter unheated greenhouses, cold-climate operation, or post-harvest drying rooms held at 12–18°C — switch to the XR-200XF desiccant series, which uses adsorption rather than a cold coil and is unaffected by low ambient temperature.

Power and Integration

The 225/335/506 series runs on 208–230V/60Hz single-phase (US) or 220V/50Hz (international) and can operate from standard greenhouse circuits. The GDH-CE380 and above use 380V three-phase industrial power — confirm your service capacity before specifying. The XR-200XF compact desiccant series runs on 220V/50Hz. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ideal humidity level for a commercial greenhouse?

The target relative humidity depends on the crop and growth stage. Vegetative stage typically targets 60–70% RH; flowering or fruiting stage targets 45–60% RH; propagation rooms run higher (70–80% RH) to support cuttings. More important than absolute RH is keeping the dew point below leaf surface temperature to prevent condensation, especially after lights-off. A correctly sized greenhouse dehumidifier prevents nightly condensation events rather than chasing a daytime RH average.

What is VPD and why does it matter for dehumidifier sizing?

Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) is the difference between how much water the air can hold at its current temperature and how much it actually holds. It drives plant transpiration directly. Most flowering crops target VPD between 0.8 and 1.5 kPa. Sizing a greenhouse dehumidifier purely by RH ignores temperature — so a 70% RH set-point at 28°C produces a very different VPD than 70% RH at 18°C. Do I need a separate dehumidifier for my drying room?

Drying rooms typically operate at 15–18°C and 50–60% RH — colder and drier than the active grow space. A compressor dehumidifier at this combination loses extraction capacity, so most commercial drying rooms use the XR-200XF compact desiccant series sized to match the wet biomass load. For larger multi-room drying operations, XR-200XF units can be distributed one per room for zone-level control.

Can I install a SHISHUO dehumidifier overhead in a sealed greenhouse?

Yes. The GDH-CE ceiling-mounted ducted series is designed for concealed overhead installation. The unit sits above the canopy or in a service plenum, and ducts distribute dry air uniformly across the growing area. This frees floor space for cultivation and improves air distribution compared to a single floor-standing unit.

How is condensate water handled in a greenhouse installation?

All industrial SHISHUO models support continuous drain hose connection, so the unit drains directly to a floor drain or collection point. Condensate from a clean evaporator coil is essentially distilled water and is reused for irrigation in many commercial greenhouses (subject to your local water reuse practices and crop type).
