Where the GDH-60E Fits Best
The GDH-60E is sized for 40–80 m² rooms where floor area is constrained and door access is narrow. A 365 mm width — narrower than most consumer 50-pint units — slides through standard 800 mm interior doorways without lifting or tilting. The four caster wheels under the chassis (not the more common two-wheel handle-cart configuration) let one operator pivot the unit in place, useful when repositioning between archive shelf rows, switchgear bays or basement equipment corridors. For its size, 60 L/day at 30 °C / 80 % RH and 600 m³/h airflow put this small portable dehumidifier in the upper-mid output tier among compact units in the 30–35 kg class.
This is not an LGR (low-grain refrigerant) restoration machine and not a consumer plastic-housed bedroom unit. The 32 kg steel chassis with all-copper coils is built for daily, unattended runtime in damp facility environments — the kind of duty cycle where plastic-housed home units fail within 12–18 months.
Compressor-Cycle Refrigeration in a Compact Footprint
The GDH-60E runs a sealed compressor refrigeration cycle in the same architecture as larger industrial units, packaged into a slim cabinet. Warm humid air enters through the side intake, passes across the oxygen-free copper evaporator coil where moisture condenses to liquid water, then exits through the top after a brief reheat across the condenser coil. As a portable compressor dehumidifier for small spaces, this configuration extracts moisture roughly 3–5x faster than peltier or rechargeable desiccant alternatives in the same room volume, at substantially lower energy consumption per liter extracted. The compressor cycle is also why the rated capacity holds up at higher ambient humidity — peltier output drops sharply above 70 % RH; compressor cycle does not.
Coil construction directly affects service life. The condenser and evaporator are oxygen-free copper tubing with hydrophilic-coated aluminum fins. Copper resists the corrosive damp ambient air this unit will operate in for years. Aluminum-tube assemblies common in lower-cost portables tend to pit and leak refrigerant within 3–5 years of continuous facility use. The hydrophilic coating sheds condensate film quickly, which keeps airflow resistance low as humidity rises.
R32 or R290 — Refrigerant Choice
Both refrigerants are factory options. Selection should match the destination market regulations and your specific capacity requirements:
R290 (propane) — natural hydrocarbon, ODP of 0, GWP of 3. Required for new equipment going into the EU and UK from 2027 onward under the revised F-gas Regulation (EU 2024/573). Classified as highly flammable (A3), requiring a sealed circuit and strict charge volume limits per IEC 60335-2-40.
R32 — next-generation HFC, GWP of 675, mildly flammable (A2L). Widely permitted in the US, Asia, and most global markets. It safely accommodates larger charge volumes, making it the practical choice for high-capacity industrial units, and is easier to service in regions lacking R290-certified technicians.
Capacity and energy efficiency are highly comparable on both options within the rated working range. While R32 provides an excellent balance of performance and safety for large global operations, R32 faces future phase-downs in strict regulatory markets. For EU orders projected to deliver after 2027, specify R290 at the PO stage to ensure compliance and avoid customs issues.
Control Panel and Humidity Sensor
The LCD touch panel shows real-time RH, target RH setting, fan speed and timer status. The integrated humidity sensor reads to ±3 % RH and triggers compressor cycling once the target is reached, so the unit will not over-dry an already-conditioned room. The 24-hour programmable timer supports unattended overnight or weekend operation. Fault codes appear on the panel for high-pressure, low-pressure, sensor fault and tank-full conditions, which shortens diagnosis time on a service call.
Drainage — Tank and Continuous Hose
Two drainage paths are built in:
- Internal tank — removable bucket with full-tank float switch. Unit auto-shuts when the bucket fills.
- Continuous gravity drain — corrosion-resistant 3 m drain hose connects to the rear G1/2" port. Route with continuous downward slope to a floor drain, utility sink or sump. There is no built-in pump on this model, so the drain endpoint must sit below the outlet height.
The supplied hose is reinforced PVC with brass fittings, rated for long-term industrial use where ordinary clear PVC tubing tends to crack or kink within months.
Auto Defrost and Low-Temperature Operation
Minimum working temperature is 5 °C. Below that point, refrigerant-cycle dehumidifiers form frost on the evaporator coil faster than the defrost cycle can clear it, and extraction drops sharply. The auto-defrost system uses hot-gas bypass triggered by coil temperature, which keeps extraction stable through the 5–18 °C range where unprotected portable units typically stall. For sustained operation below 5 °C — walk-in cold storage, unheated archives in winter — switch to a desiccant-type rotary dehumidifier instead. The working principle is adsorption rather than condensation, and effective extraction continues down past –20 °C.
Build and Protection
The outer housing is 1.0 mm thickened cold-rolled steel with electrostatic powder coating. Internal electrical components receive a moisture-proof conformal coating before assembly — this matters when the unit operates in 90 %+ RH ambient air for extended periods, since that moisture has to pass through the PCB before reaching the coil. Built-in safety includes high-pressure cut-out, overcurrent protection, defrost interlock and tank-full shutoff. Four polyamide caster wheels rated at 50 kg each — well above the 32 kg gross weight — keep the wheel cups from flat-spotting under long-term static loading.
OEM and ODM Service
Standard customization includes badge and logo silk-screening, color code (RAL or Pantone), power cord and plug type for the destination market (Type B, F, G, I and others), and packaging artwork. ODM scope covers panel layout, control firmware language, refrigerant selection, capacity-rating label and certification routing (CE, RoHS, ETL, SAA depending on target market).
